Audiation

Brass Quintet written almost entirely away from the keyboard.

This was an exercise composing something entirely by ear, i.e. without "hearing" the music in a phyiscal sense (speakers, instruments, etc.). It was 3/4 done when I went to Freund's office for a meeting and I "heard" it for the first time.

The G minor part is reminiscent of Marc-Andre Hamelin's Prelude and Fugue. I think I stole his exact orchestration on 2 or 3 of the harmonies. The ending is in the vein of Kenneth Fuch's orchestra/band work "Artists United," a work I heard when I played piano for the 2011 All-State High School Band.
