Stuff (String Quartet)
Pretty simple ABA structure where B is a waltz. I vividly remember Freund helping me write that cool chromatic cello line in the A section.It was at this point -- writing my second piece in college -- that I had mostly given up on titles! I remember thinking that this piece was busy and chaotic sounding and loosely painted a mental image of a hoarder. So, "Stuff" it was.
Freund helped me with the rad cello part in the beginning. I still remember him saying "What if you did something like this?" and then quickly entering in what seemed like random low notes on the MIDI keyboard in his office. Upon playback I was blown away that it actually sounded right. What a boss! He'd go on to play the part himself in the reading. Great guy.
