One Page Organ Preludes - #1

First piece in a series of one page organ preludes. Who likes turning pages!?

This is the first in a series of organ preludes (and postludes). I wrote this after staying the night at Clay and Fran's apartment in Jefferson City. St. Peter's was just down the street and I played there often on Sunday morning. I literally rolled over on the couch I was sleeping on and instantly thought of this idea which I quickly wrote down on paper.

What I like about this piece is that to me it never had any obvious influences (as opposed to many of the pieces I was writing around this time). It's extremely minimal but functional. And it does a few things that only an organ can do (i.e. the Crescendo pedal swells and ending chord).

It's four minutes if you go slow. It should probably be played faster than that, however.
