It blew my mind the first time I learned that string players will adjust their tuning outside equal temperament when it sounds better. This isn't possible when playing with pianos, synths, percussion, or other instruments that can't change their tuning in real-time.
But what if it were possible? Would it sound better?
What would a synthesizer sound like if it were constantly adjusting its intonation to be more mathematically simpler or contain fewer beating?
