The Music Idea

A few hours ago I was at Shakespeare's rolling pizza dough.

It was my first shift back wearing Andrew Pracchia's old hat. I had lost track of it a year or two ago until last week when my mom sent me a picture of a dirty old Cardinals cat asking if it was mine. I was pretty thrilled it had resurfaced. It may be just an old hat, but to me it symbolizes my goal to be the best roller I can be.

Halfway through the shift tonight, I started thinking about all the songs that need to be produced this year with Sizable as part of grand goal of mine. I was thinking how it would all end. What that would sound like. What that would feel like. And in one of those rare moments of inspiration, the music just started playing.

It was like listening to a radio that only I could hear or viewing a musical score that only I could see. My eyes were cameras filming a scene with the score being recorded in real time. It sound like an ending, a sigh. The last chapter of a book. The last phrase of a symphony.

I thought about that idea for at least two hours. I'm still thinking about it. Thinking about the sounds and the notes. Trying to figure out how it'll all fit together. While I may not know all of the details for this until later in the year, the idea is so clear to me that all of these details are somehow already decided. The work simply needs to be done.

Preparing for the Hackathon

In other news, the business side of our particular Carfax team is coming out to Missouri from Virginia this next week. I'm excited that they'll be here as we generally have fun when they are here and it's cool to see the people that you talk to everyday over video chat in person.

At the end of this week our company is having a hackathon. This is a 1 - 2 day event where everyone "hacks" together a cool project that is general Carfax related. Employees experiment with and flesh out ideas that don't get any time or attention from the business currently, generally. It's also just a chance to learn something new or work with different people.

The project I've been working on the last few weeks (static rendered webapps and a public facing graphql api) is one that I really want to share and present but I already feel like I've disqualified myself by starting early and doing it mostly by myself. I haven't decided if I'm going to enter the actual "competition" or not.

My main goal in all of this is to create something inspiring and useful for the business that would inform not only the technology choices that the business makes going forward but also what I'll be working on for a while. I want to maneuver myself into projects or teams that I'm excited to be a part of.

Food update

As soon as I finish writing this blog I'm going to freshly.com and ordering 12 meals a week for a while. I haven't been happy with my choice of food recently and I'm going to do something about it.

I feel like I just keep getting bigger and bigger. I touch my stomach and it doesn't even feel like I'm touching my stomach but someone else's instead. It's freakin' bizarre.

I have been working out 2-3 times a week at Rho Engine Room and I definitely feel stronger all around. I mostly notice when I stand up from awkward positions (getting out of the card while holding some heavy things in my hands). This used to hurt my knees but now with the extra strength it doesn't. That's cool.

But I don't think I'm going to get back to my optimal weight until I stop eating Seasoning 63 every single day. It's so delicious but there's so much of it. And at times I eat it even if I'm already somewhat full because that's just my routine.

Later.
