As I've mentioned in countless other blogs, I've been working on a
GraphQL Library for Unit Types
.
A week or two ago, I finally got it to a state I am happy with. I wrote an
article about it and my friend Conner Ruhl gave me a
lot of great edits. So we finally
released the article today!.
A few months ago, I mentioned that I was rewriting the time tracking system that I use. Conner originally wrote it. While it worked well, I didn't like the limitations that came with integrating with Toggl. So I ended up rewriting much of the code so I could own all of my data.
That was before I got busy preparing for a job interview, learning to play the pedal steel, and writing the library I mentioned above... I got a bit distracted but picked up where I left off a few days ago. As it turns out, I was very close to accomplishing the first phase of major redevelopment. Within a dozen hours or so, I was able to divorce myself from Toggl completely. Now I own all of the data in AWS. This change will make it much easier to manipulate and derive analytics from my data in the future. I might have some actual data on my goals after all!
Big News. The job interview went very well and I won the position; I'm going to be a software engineer at EquipmentShare! My first day is two weeks from tomorrow. I'm really excited!
It's the same job I applied for (and failed to get) earlier on in the year. I am so thankful to have been given a second chance. I'll have more information on this in a post 2-3 weeks from now. I'll probably also go into a bit more detail about why I'm leaving Carfax. For now, I'll leave it at that.
